dark circles | Their causes, types, and ways to get rid of them

Dark circles under the eyes can be caused by a variety of factors including genetics, allergies, eczema, asthma, nasal congestion, and sinus infections. Lack of sleep, stress, and age can also contribute to the formation of dark circles.

There are two types of dark circles:

  1. Periorbital hyperpigmentation, which is caused by an increase in melanin production, can be caused by sun exposure, hormonal changes, and certain medications.
  2. Periorbital puffiness, which is caused by fluid buildup and is often associated with allergies, eczema, and sinus infections.

To get rid of dark circles, you can:

  1. Get enough sleep and reduce stress.
  2. Apply a cold compress to the area to reduce puffiness.
  3. Apply a moisturizer with sunscreen to the area to protect the skin from sun damage.
  4. Utilize a concealer to cover up dark circles.
  5. Consider using over-the-counter products containing ingredients like Vitamin K, Vitamin C, caffeine, retinol, and hyaluronic acid that can help to reduce the appearance of dark circles.
  6. Consult a dermatologist if your dark circles persist or if you have underlying skin conditions.
